On October 5, 2006, the conference titled Media Sphere: Philosophy, Communication, Art was held in Vilnius. Media are an integral and important part of the academic discourse in many other countries, where new study programmes focusing on the phenomenon of media are introduced both in the universities’ faculties of social, human and technology studies and in the art academies. Meanwhile, in Lithuania this was the first event dedicated to presenting media as an interdisciplinary object of study from different perspectives: those of philosophy, communication, and the theory and practice of art.
This multimedia report includes a number of images from the conference, accompanied by full mp3 recordings of the presentations and subsequent discussions. The speakers include Vilnius Art Academy prorector Arūnas Gelūnas, media theorist and artist Vytautas Michelkevičius, and graduate students of Vilnius Art Academy, Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University. The topics of the presentations range from visual and interactive media to sound art.
