Superfactory(TM) provides an adjustable framework to creatively deal with global capitalism by creating new forms of production. Look at your surroundings, what can you do with the the objects and processes that are immediately available? The more you do locally, the quicker globalism is drained of its power to distort the only life we have. Use the material of random re-sources and become a Prosumer within Superfactory(TM)! Bring DIY into your practice and regain creative expressions!
This engaging and ecclectic three-day workshop/seminar/happening will address several parallel topics within the idea of sustainable creative practices. These will include foundations of collaborative exchange; DIY (Do-It-Yourself) culture; interactive art; ascii art; sonic/sound art; food art; open source; knowledge sharing/building; open-channel dialogue and more. Participants will have the opportunity to check out three possible areas of working that interest them on a first-come-first-serve basis. There will be plenty of opportunities to share what we collectively learn no matter what area you work on yourself. We want to invite participants to become Prosumers — both a producer and consumer here in this mix of factory and supermarket where you can exploit yourself instead of being exploited. Produce your own parts and join the Plug-In-Party with other Prosumers!
One specific collaborative project will be the construction of a data/video projector from easy-to-find components — this will provide direct, hands-on experience in electro-mechanical fabrication as well as a great intro to the DIY concept. Students interested in sonic work will be introduced to practices around field recording and processing data to create visual-sonic content. The food portion of the workshop will be an open exploration of the cooking and eating experience as a fundamental element of any collaborative creative practice (Plug-in-Soup / Salad).
The workshop presenters will engage participants in lively discussion of contemporary creative practices. And while we do have a plan, we are happy to accomodate alternate pathways of engagement based on topics that are directly relevant to participants. Participants are welcome to bring their own tools, ideas, and creative resources into the situation. Previous experience with technology is NOT necessary, and students from any and all disciplines are warmly welcome to attend and bring their ideas into the mix. Students interested in contemporary developments in socially active, grassroots, hybrid, networked, open source, sound, and visual arts are encouraged to participate. It’s about you with us, what can we do?
The workshop will culminate with a visual-sonic-edible-jam-chill-session-party-event-happening on the final Saturday evening of the workshop. So please, (don’t) bring your MP3/CD/USB-Stick/USB-Drive/I-Pod/Audiocassette/Notebook/GameBoy/
WorldReceiver/Radio/TV/MD/Dictaphone/Mike! Nothing is already there, there! How do you bring home the bacon?
The workshop is presented by Superfactory(TM) http://www.superfactory.biz
